The league or tournament officials will appoint a referee to call the fouls. He is responsible for detecting any violation of the rules and regulations relating to fouls by any player. League or tournament leaders may also use any automatic foul detection device that is sanctioned by the ABC.
If the automatic foul detection machine is temporarily out of order, the tournament management appoints a special group of referees who identify violations of the rules; such referees in league games may be the captains of the opposing teams. Refusal to repair the automatic detector or to nominate referees will result in the elimination of players from the number of applicants for awarding high points according to the ABC version.
